-Aeron Jones Our grade 11 student of the week goes to Zethu Shude. She recently took part in a pageant between the Umzumbe municipality and Hibiscus Coast municipality. The pageant was known as ‘Queen of High Schools’. Zethu unfortunately walked away without the title, but still managed to make it into the top eight. She attended the auditions, where she received some exciting feedback from the judges. They really liked her and elected her as their brand ambassador of the entire pageant. There were some girls from our school who competed for the crown as well. Zethu currently still promotes their brand. The beaut is clearly an asset to the pageant scene. Zethu includes her expectations as the ambassador: “I think promoting the brand as a whole and motivating the youth because ‘Queen of High School’ promotes women empowerment and good behaviour. A Queen of High School is not allowed to date during her reign. This shows what the brand stands for.”
This pageant took place during Women’s month which is a phenomenal initiative to showcase talent. Zethu’s will in joining the pageant challenged the foundational assumption that beauty pageants are an invitation for promoting make up and accessories. Her reasoning lies within a more intellectual context as she highlights the values of young female adolescents. Zethu is a mature student who is willing to promote correct behaviour and sophistication amongst young women.
