- Tauriel For many Matrics the Suidies Derby Day was the last time they'd get to play I'm maroon and blue. Representing our school in three sporting codes: rugby, netball and hockey.
The day started bright and early with students pouring in, in their blazers ready to cheer on our boys and girls. The day proved difficult with both sides playing their hearts out in hopes of a win. Results were as following: 1st Team Hockey Girls won 3-0, 1st Team Netball lost at the final whistle by a 1 goal margin and 1st Team Rugby Boys unfortunately lost when a missed try was called and the whistle blew settling the score at 28-21. The third consecutive win for Suid Natal! Despite the two losses our students ended the day singing the school mantra "I'm a warrior 'til I die" with so much pride that it felt as though it was a celebration. The younger boys and girls are looking to next year have the all important trophy return to our hall's and restore our name. TaurielCongratulations to Sifezekile Jula and Lindo Machi for making the second round of KZN Rugby Trials-Sammy.The final round of the KwaZulu-Natal Netball Trials took place on the 6th of May 2017.- Zamarisationalism Port Shepstone High School resumed the rugby league play-offs after the Easter holiday with an away game against Kloof High School. The results of the matches that took place ranged between tenaciously battled defeats of all rugby age groups, junior Hockey boys and senior Netball teams to the effortless triumph by the U14 Netball team winning by 12 points.
- Thobisa M On the 3rd of May, Toyota hosted their annual sponsor’s evening for our rugby team sat Toyota in Shelly Beach.
The guests were warmly welcomed by the Toyota staff and after they had settled in Mr Williams welcomed all present. _Tauriel The very first Derby Day for Sheppie happened last Saturday morning (11/03) against Hillcrest High School.
The day started early when the Girls’ U14 U16 and 2nd teams for hockey, U14 U15 U16 and 2nd teams for netball and Boys’ U14 U15 U16 2nd and 1st teams travelled up to Hillcrest for the mornings games. The day proved okay for this being the first non-league based games played by the teams and the final results for the main attraction of the day the 1st Team boys game was 22-10 an unfortunate loss for the Warriors. The girls U16 hockey team lost 1-0 and the U14B netball girls won 13-7 _Tauriel The junior girls’ touch rugby team started their season off with a loss in their opening game but came back hard the following week to win 10-0 against Durban Girls’ High School’s u15 team. The senior girls have managed to win all their games so far in the league and we are awaiting the finals to see in which position we are in.
During last Friday's games, the junior girls won against Westville and drew against Fatima and the senior girls won their game 6-1. _Tauriel Over the past six weeks pre-season practice for multiple winter sports had begun. We saw our Sheppie Ballerinas (Hockey Girls), Beasts (Netball Girls) and Warriors (Rugby Boys) compete in the Night Series Championship Leagues and being placed within the top three positions of each. The girls’ netball and hockey sides weren’t able to retain their number one position this year.
Final results - Aeron Girls from across the province came to showcase their talent in a recent tournament held on Saturday at home. There were seven teams who participated for the trophy and medals. Our girls were nervous and excited as this was the first match day of the season. The games lasted until about 2pm.
